Job Description

The primary role for the Senior Technical Writer is to scope, create, direct, and manage information. The result of this primary task will be the production of customer-facing and internal content deliverables for data center storage products.

The primary role for the Senior Technical Writer is to scope, create, direct, and manage information. The result of this primary task will be the production of customer-facing and internal content deliverables for data center storage products. This person will work closely with project teams to create schedules, develop information, facilitate reviews, and finalize content. This person may also assist in developing and improving internal tools, processes, communication, and supporting other team members when necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, Communication, or a degree in a related field
  • 4+ years of technical writing experience including creating and maintaining Installation Guides, User Guides, and other technical assets
  • Experience with Oxygen (or similar XML authoring tool), content management systems (CMS), Adobe Creative Cloud (Acrobat, Illustrator, and Photoshop) is a plus
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with waterfall and Agile project development processes
  • Background with data center hardware and software technologies is a plus
  • Experience with or understanding of storage technologies
  • Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, Composer, or AutoCAD) is a plus

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for creating and maintaining information and schedules to ensure timely and quality deliverables
  • Run documentation reviews with program stakeholders and subject matter experts (SME)
  • Regularly communicate directly with program teams and engineering staff
  • Deliver program documentation and other assets
  • Support team members on other programs as needed
  • Look for ways to improve efficiency and more effectively develop solutions with improved processes

Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Writing, editing, formatting, and illustrating technical end-user documentation
  • Experience creating project scopes is a plus
  • Experience with waterfall and Agile project development processes

  • An employee’s pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to (1) relevant education; qualifications; certifications; and experience; (2) skills, ability, knowledge of the job; (3) performance, contribution and results; (4) geographic location; (5) shift; (6) internal and external equity; and (7) business and organizational needs.
  • The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Colorado or remote jobs that can be performed in Colorado. This range may be modified in the future.
  • You will also be eligible to participate in Western Digital’s Short-Term Incentive (STI) Plan and to receive equity awards under our annual Long-Term Incentive (LTI) program, which consists of restricted stock units (RSUs), pursuant to the terms of these programs.
